I fell in love with Pilates when my youngest was old enough to go to preschool. I finally found I could feel strong and connected in my body in a way I had never had experienced before, even before I had my two children.
Like most new moms, I was wondering if I’d ever find my abdominals again! But Pilates was invigorating and rebuilt my confidence in my body! It changed the way I stood, the way I walked, and most of all, brought me something new, a sense of informed movement. Informed movement that I could now bring with me in doing life and every form of exercise I did from strength training to cycling to yoga.
I often heard my Mat classmates complain they couldn’t do “this” or “that” and felt defeated. But I knew they could given help. I knew then I wanted to teach Pilates. With my background as a Speech-Language Pathologist, I knew they just needed the exercise broken down a bit, and delivered in a way to help them find it in their body. Then after teaching for a while, I knew I needed “more” —more knowledge and insight of the body to be able to help my students, especially the ones with injuries, surgeries, and orthopedic conditions. I returned back to school for another degree to become a Physical Therapist Assistant. My new PTA training gave me a detailed framework to view & assess movement and added greater acuity to my teaching eye.
As I grew older through a few hard transitions in life, I developed anxiety which could be crippling at times. However, it is Pilates that brings focused, intentional movement which rebuilds and reconnects my body & my mind. Pilates keeps me “glued together” mentally, emotionally, and physically.
I am passionate about helping people feel good in their bodies, helping them learn how to move well, and enabling them to continue doing the things they love. I love empowering my students to do things they didn’t think they could ever do or ever be able to do again!
